The amount of structural steel necessary to sculpt Acero, not only gave Acero its name (Spanish for steel), but also represented over 25% of the total construction costs! Upon entering Acero through the steel entry gate, the all-glass front door features hands-free operation. The vast entry extends over a sunk-down fire pit area, and brings the outdoors inside with tropical planters throughout the main living area. The water feature falling from the second floor down to the pool, acts as a natural swamp cooler with frequent southwest breezes passing through the water into the Great Room. A glass floor in the Kitchen/Nook allows breakfast to be eaten over the pool, and the glass floor under the cantilevered Master Bed, further engulfs the room in the tropical garden below. Once upstairs the Entertainment Room features 180 degree perspectives, with views of the Strip to the east, the golf coarse waterfall/pond to the south, and the desert mountains to the west. Bathing in Acero requires a bit of self confidence, as most of the bathrooms come equipped with floor to ceiling windows, with no window coverings!
The Slade family has been building in the Las Vegas valley for over 50 years. In the early 50s, Virgil Slade was a young farmer from Colorado starting a family. After a bad year of crops, Virgil moved to Las Vegas looking for business opportunities. With a population of 30,000 that was rapidly expanding, Virgil found the opportunity he was looking for in the booming Las Vegas construction industry, and successfully started and grew a construction business. Virgil's son, Stacy, continued the family business after Virgil's retirement, and focused building quality custom homes. Since the early 80s, Stacy has built over 100 homes in the valley. Stacy's sons, have added a 3rd generation to the business, with Justin joining in 1999 and Chad in 2004. With a foundation in custom homes and general contracting, the Slade family has also been involved in commercial real estate development and multi-family development. As the residence for Justin Slade, Acero is a Slade project that combines Stacy's building expertise and Justin's design to create a unique and amazing home. Not unlike many family businesses, the Slade dynamic is reminiscent of an episode of Orange County Chopper, where father and son clash, in a dramatic but constructive fashion, to create something special.
